Proofing
Proofing is the BEST way to get you and your dog on the road to successful showing!
Once your dog know an exercise can he complete it to your criteria if someone offered him steak? How about the kid with the hot dog standing next to the ring? Consistent, fair, and resourceful proofing helps your dog understand that he must perform any exercise or skill to your specifications regardless of the distractions or the conditions. Furthermore, through proper proofing, your dog will become more confident and focused on you regardless of the situation or distraction. Once your dog is confident and understands a game, skill, or exercise, appropriate proofing will test his perception of your instructions. Proofing also helps you to recreate inappropriate ring responses that you can change and correct.
Goals of class –
*Teach your dog to maintain attention and focus on you regardless of the distraction
*Teach you how to determine if the distractions are too much or too little for your dog
*Teach you games to help your dog work through distractions and become more confident
* Proofing – what?/why?/how?
