Listed below is our upcoming class schedule.

Class dates are subject to change, please contact Debby for the latest information. Please take a few minutes to check out the directions on the Facility page to Dogwood before the first night of class and feel free to call for additional directions.

Due to the unpredictability in Houston weather, we reserve the right to cancel classes if there is dangerous weather in the area. Please call the Dogwood phone number, 713-849-9115 to check on class status.

Please review the prerequisites identified for a class before enrolling and read the course description for the PREREQUISITE class.

Sorry, no refunds can be made after the first class is completed or after the class has been filled.

MONTHLY CLASSES PAYMENT POLICY:

Monthly classes start on the first day of the month and end on the last day of the same month. Class fees are based upon a “four week month” with only one dog per handler, and one dog per class. There will be an additional fee (s) for working an additional dog in a monthly class. There are no transfers or substitutions of classes during a month.
Class fees for all monthly classes are due on the 1st of each month. If you are dropping or adding a monthly class, please let us know before the 1st of the month. Otherwise you will still be enrolled in the class and fees are still due for that month.

Rally Novice/Advanced

easyheelingRally Novice/Advanced class allows students to learn and practice obedience skills necessary to perform Rally Novice, Intermediate and Advanced Rally courses with instruction. Students learn and practice how to perform signs, how to walk and think about courses as well as steps required to train and execute skills in a confident, brisk and focused manner. This monthly class will consist of alternating exercise and course nights. Themed exercise nights consist of obedience instruction required to execute and perform signs and courses. Class themes address such topics as turns of all types, quick sits, downs and stands, heeling pace changes, executing tight courses, etc. Additionally, on exercise nights, students have the opportunity to practice these skills by running 1-2 mini-courses consisting of 5-9 signs. On course nights, students will have the opportunity to run a competition-type course with coaching.

Skills needed to enter this class: To enter this class, teams need to be able to perform a short straight line heeling sequence with attention and focus, have entry level knowledge of turns including hindquarter rotation for dog to maintain position, foundations of a front and finish although these skills may not be integrated, have a reliable recall, sit stay, and sphinx down.

Rally Novice/Advanced

Rally Excellent/Masters class allows students to learn and practice obedience skills necessary to perform Rally Excellent and Masters Rally courses with instruction. Students learn and practice how to perform signs, how to walk and think about courses as well as steps required to train and execute the skills in a confident, brisk and focused manner. This monthly class will consist of alternating exercise and course nights. Themed exercise nights consist of obedience instruction required to execute and perform signs and courses. Class themes address such topics as turns of all types, quick sits, downs and stands, heeling pace changes, executing tight courses, etc. Additionally, on exercise nights, students have the opportunity to practice these skills by running 1-2 mini-courses consisting of 5-9 signs. On course nights, students will have the opportunity to run a competition-type course with coaching.

Skills needed to enter this class: To enter this class, teams need to be able to perform heeling sequences with attention and focus, have knowledge of turns including hindquarter rotation for dog to maintain position, foundations of a front and finish although these skills may not be integrated, have a reliable recall, sit stay, and sphinx down and have earned the AKC Rally Advanced title or its equivalent or be actively competing in AKC Advanced Rally or its equivalent.

Novice Competition Obedience

competition_noviceNovice Obedience class will help you polish the skills required to show in Novice obedience. This class includes proofing for heeling and working on the various heeling maneuvers such as circle left, circle right, moving down, moving sit, figure-8, serpentines, pivots, etc. The class includes the skills for all Novice obedience exercises including Heeling, Figure-8, Stand for Exam, Recall, fronts and finishes, etc. During class we will review ring procedure and once a month we will have a Beginning Novice course to allow you to actually practice the skills.

Novice Obedience
Thursday 9:45 – 10:30 AM Instructor Debby Quigley

Open Class will proof and perfect, the exercises needed for students to earn their CDX (Open Obedience classes). This class is also appropriate for those students currently working on higher level titles such as the UDX, OTCH. Open exercises will include: Retrieve on the flat, Retrieve over the high jump, Drop on Recall, Broad Jump, Off- Leash heeling and out of site stays. In addition, we will review ring procedure and proof all exercises.

Equipment needed for this class: Students need to have a dumbbell and a set of obedience jumps for home training.

Open Obedience

competition_utilsmUtility Class will proof and perfect, the exercises needed for students to earn their UD (Utility Obedience Classes). This class is also appropriate for those students currently working on higher level titles such as the UDX, OTCH. Utility exercises will include: Signals, moving stand, directed jumping (including the go out), directed retrieve (gloves), and scent discrimination (articles). In addition, we will review ring procedure and proof all exercises.

Equipment needed for this class: Students need to have a gloves, articles, and a set of obedience jumps for home training.
